Al Baraka Pakistan Al Baraka Deposit Accounts
Islamic Bank Accounts in Sindh
The deposit shelf of Al Baraka Bank Pakistan - a scheduled Islamic bank from the ground up (licence Jan 2007), 196 branches across 85+ cities at December 2025, a VIS AA-/A1 rating, and 59.13% owned by Al Baraka Islamic Bank of Bahrain within a group operating in 13 countries with 600+ branches. Its religious paperwork is stronger than its website: signed annual Shariah certificates for 2024 and 2025 (English and Urdu) plus per-product certificates for remunerative and non-remunerative deposits, under a board chaired by AAOIFI Shariah Board member Sheikh Esam Mohammad Ishaq. The gap is rate disclosure - current declared rates, profit-sharing ratios and weightages were not retrievable from the website at our August 2026 review, the weakest consumer rate disclosure among the full-fledged Islamic banks we compared.
Al Baraka's deposit case is a paradox: excellent annual religious certification and a standards-body chairman, sitting on a website that can't reliably tell you its own branch count, let alone this month's declared rate. The institution is sound (VIS AA-/A1) and genuinely Islamic end to end. Treat the published Shariah certificates as the reason to shortlist it, and the missing rate disclosure as the homework you'll do in-branch.
Pros
- Annual signed Shariah certificates with named scholar signatures - verifiable yearly religious review, not a static compliance claim
- AAOIFI Shariah Board chairman gives the governance real standards-body weight
- Investment-grade VIS ratings (AA-/A1) from a fully Islamic institution, not an Islamic window
- Backed by the Al Baraka Group's 13-country, 600+ branch footprint with an IIRA BBB+/A3 international rating
Cons
- No declared deposit rates, ratios or weightages were retrievable from the website at our Aug 2026 review - the weakest consumer rate disclosure among the full-fledged Islamic banks we compared
- The bank's own about page understates itself by roughly two years (189 branches / Rs 260B assets vs VIS's 196 / Rs 311.9B for Dec 2025), and several governance pages were broken
- Board members are not listed on a working page of the bank's own site - we verified them via the VIS rating report

Why It's Halal
Al Baraka Pakistan is a scheduled Islamic bank from the ground up - Islamic banking licence January 2007, majority-owned (59.13%) by Al Baraka Islamic Bank of Bahrain within a group operating in 13 countries - so deposits sit in a fully Islamic institution rather than a window. The religious paper trail is its strength: the bank publishes signed annual Shariah certificates for 2024 and 2025 in English and Urdu, plus separate certificates for remunerative and non-remunerative deposit products, bearing the signatures of its scholars - annual Shariah-review disclosure most competitors do not match. The board is chaired by Sheikh Esam Mohammad Ishaq, a sitting AAOIFI Shariah Board member. What our August 2026 review could not verify: current declared profit rates, profit-sharing ratios and weightages were not on the crawled pages (parts of the site render via JavaScript and several pages 404), so deposit economics require a branch conversation.
